Facing Facts

"Oh! let us never, never doubt, What nobody is sure about!" so wrote Hilaire Belloc in the first half of the 20th century and it is just as hard today to move counter to the prevailing world view. Simply to ask questions exposes one to ridicule.

As a scientist I am saddened when prominent publicists display a total ignorance of the history and philosophy of science and misuse its authority to reinforce their own belief system. As a Christian I am distressed when well-meaning folk attempt to interpret Genesis as a science textbook.

Phillip Bell

I have read Darwin and Dawkins. I have also read the calm and reasoned response from Alister McGrath. I know the conclusions that I have come to but I am always ready to hear what others have to say and make a rational reassessment of my position.

Phillip Bell, who, like a certain famous atheist, is a zoologist, is presenting a public lecture entitled "Evidence for Evolution? Let's face the facts" at Rudbaxton Community hall, Cardigan Road, Crundale. The meeting, which starts at 7:30pm, is sponsored by local churches and Creation Ministries International. More information is available from Norman Rees on 0143 773 1355.

Are we prepared to take the risk of hearing a different argument or is the prospect of maybe changing our mind too much for us?
