Games for grown-ups?!

If your body is running too fast, stop and let your soul catch up’

gp1

On Wednesday 18th June there was another of the "days of refreshment" at St David's cathedral. This time it was led by Rhiannon Johnson. The title "Godly Play for grown ups" meant it was a must for me as I am the sort of grown up who loves going on swings and bouncy castles!

At the start of the day, Rhiannon told us about how Godly Play was started. An American Montessori teacher, Jerome W. Berryman, thought that it would be good to introduce the ideas from his experience into scripture teaching.

Stories unfold simply with pictures introduced at each stage. The whole thing is rounded off with "I wonder" questions, getting the audience to think and be involved in the story and with the characters. Having told the story of Creation with a roll of felt and seven picture cards Rhiannon "wondered" if we could manage without one of the days.

There were also quiet times for us to be creative, or be quiet, or exchange ideas. The 20 or so of us there were amazed at the innovative approach to scripture teaching.

Rhiannon did say that anyone who was intersted in introducing Godly Play into their church situation that she would be delighted to help. You can contact Rhiannon by email to a.johnson76@btinternet.com
