A Three-fold Cord

What is the link between a couple living in Burundi, Eastern Africa and a couple living in Glandwr, Pembrokeshire? Simply the love of God which reaches across continents to heal marriages.

Graham Swaffield, an ex-police officer and Elim Pentecostal Church Pastor was called to this service while on a visit to Kenya in 1998. He and his wife Ruth began Marriage Ministry in 1999 and now there are five couples taking on the marriage ministry in their own countries. Two in Kenya, two in Malawi, and one couple in Rwanda. In that time many marriages have been enriched and some saved from divorce.

Marriage Ministry offers "Seminars", teaching about the nature of marriage and addressing practical issues such as conflict and forgiveness, and "Encounters", in which couples stay in a guest house for two days and to learn communicate feelings and concerns to each other.

Malawi, Tents for Marriage Encounter

A new departure is their involvement in the provision of health care facilities through a project to build a clinic at Kande in Malawi.

Graham and Ruth have many testimonies to the benefit the ministry brings such as this one from Bishop Callixte of the Christian Pentecostal Church, Burundi,

"During the seminar, there was a man who always beat his wife and refused to give the ration (food, clothing etc.) to his wife , after the seminar and after seeing and thinking how you love your wife and thinking about the teaching on Christian marriage living. He decided to change his life and his wife also made testimony about his change."
